TRAVELLING AND DISTANCE INFORMATION
It is a 70 k.m. two-way track passing through Dense Forests, Water streams, Sprawling meadows and Lofty mountains.
The climb is little bit difficult but it offers a panoramic ranges view. The journey to the place can be undertaken from Baghipul village situated in Nirmand, district Kullu which is 115 k.m. (approx.) from Shimla.
It is advisable to undertake this journey when the Shrikhand Management Committee puts up camps at different places in July where they provide food, tea and water besides night shelter. Local people also pitch tents and offer food and stay but on payment basis.
Shrikhand Kailash Yatra Samiti made arrangements for travellers and establish camps at Singhgad, Thachdu and Bheemdwar.
Jaon village in Kullu district can be reached by vehicle. From there, one can head for the base camp 2.5 k.m. (approx.) away at Singhgad. For night stay, there’s tented accommodation as well as a forest hut. At night, pilgrims can join and enjoy the jagrata as a treat for the journey.
After spending the night here yatris can start their journey early morning. The trek from Singhgad to Brahti Naala along the splattering River is lined with a variety of plants, and trees. It would be wise to carry drinking water for the way since the track from here becomes a bit difficult to reach 2nd night hault point called Thachru, which is 8 k.m. (approx.) away from Brahti Naala. Between a resting place has been constructed. During the yatra period, the organisers provide food/eatables at this place too.
From Brahti Naala one has to make an almost vertical ascent called Dandi Dhar (not exactly straight like a stick), till Thachru (2nd night stay) and carry on to next day till Kaali Ghati (here ends dandi dhar), which can be quite exhausting. On the top of the hill is an ancient temple of Godess Kaali.
After Kaali Ghati a beautiful location comes before ur eyes named Kunsha. Again, one passes through sprawling meadows laden with wild flowers and Herbs.
(Note : Please avoid trekking in sunlight or use masks to avoid intoxication by Hazardous Gases produced by wild flowers and herbs)
The path till Bheemdwar (3rd night stay) from Kunsha is quite narrow and dangerous.
After 3rd night hault at Bheemdwar, one should move for Holy "Shrikhand Kailash" peak quite early (preffered timings : 3:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m.), so as to return to the camp before 6:00 p.m. , as there is no shelter on the way between Bheemdwar and Destination Peak "Shrikhand Kailash".
The 3 k.m. (approx.) track begins from Bheemdwar to reach Nain Sarovar is slippery-cum-Rocky and has to be crossed too. All precautions have to be taken as this track becomes unsafe after the rains / hail.
After reaching Nain Sarovar, the ascent through big boulders is steep and quite tough. The rare Wild Lotus (Brham Kamal) grown amidst the boulders is an endangered species but localites pluck them for religious beliefs.
(Note : Please Avoid Smelling wild folwers)
A few Glaciers also have to be crossed before reaching the Holy peak of "Shrikhand Kailash", where pilgrims perform puja. The view from 5425 mt. (approx.) is simply splendid — one literally feels on the top of the world. The surrounding snow-covered peaks and mountains adds mind blowing view for photography.
Nobody can stay on the top for a long time as the winds there are very strong and bone-chilling. The downward journey from the top should start before 4:00 p.m. as the weather starts worsening in the afternoon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND :-
[1] Respect the natural environment at all times. Do not litter, burn wood, play loud music, pluck plants or herbs, or disturb wildlife. Carry all your litter back with you. Follow established protocols regarding toilet.
As the saying goes : " Take nothing away but memories, leave nothing but footprints ! "
[2] On many treks forest rest houses or huts are available for the first day or so, but do not depend on them and carry your sleeping bags or tents (please enquire with SHRIKHAND SEWA DAL, while planning). Reservations should be made in advance with the local DFO or Range Officer.
[3] It is risky to go on treks without a competent local guide, especially at higher altitudes or where passes have to be crossed or glaciers negotiated. Always hire a guide or obtain the services of an authorised, registered tour operator. You can find a list of them on web-site of Himachal Tourism or check with local District Tourism Development Officer or with "SHRIKHAND SEWA DAL".
[4] Do not take these treks lightly or be casual about preparing for them. Be well equipped with appropriate camping gear, food stuffs, clothes, medicines, boots, torches ets. (Essentials / Accessories are defined further). Any good tour operator will give you a list, or you can find it on web-site of Himachal Tourism.
[5] Always respect local sentiments, culture and practices. People in these remote communities in Himachal are very warm-hearted and hospitable to a fault. Do not abuse their trust. Any good guide will tell you about local customs and taboos, which must be respected. Trekking is not just about getting to a place, but the experiences involved - so enjoy them.
[6] You must always watch the weather. This can change suddenly at higher altitudes, So be prepared to modify your itinerary. Do not be fool-hardy or display misplaced bravado. In these areas Nature is king, and you must follow its dictats.
